Chapter Twenty Four

Cometh the messiah

It is still dark when Monk and Jacob finally make it into Brantome, with their luck still holding out and the dark cloudy sky covering there entry into the town they have up to yet not encountered anyone who could give there location away.

“Stay close Jacob, we must try not to be seen by anyone.” Monk continues: “Come on, we need to make it over to the abbey.”

They continues walking until the sound of the river is heard to their right, Monk is making for the cliff face over looking the river that runs along the same side of the abbey, which is a little distance ahead on the cobblestone road.

“What you looking for?” Jacob asks.

“Schuss come on this way.” Monk insists, he continues saying as soft as he can but still being able to be heard. “We must not be seen come on this way.

They are nearing the Abbey when Monk sees something.

“It’s a sign.” Monk says quietly.

A V-sign is barely seen high above a cave entrance. Jacob can barely make anything out.

“Where?”

“Schuss this way.” Monk tells him. “Come quickly in here.”

Monk goes over and inside the large cave entrance closely followed by Jacob.

“Where is it?” Monk says to himself.

It is dark so Monk takes out the flash light from the rucksack and flashes it at the wall, but can’t see the sign, Monk turns around looking for the sign, then suddenly Monk sees it, a V sign, it’s what his been looking for.

“Here.” Monk then says. “Come here, Jacob.”

Jacob does has he is told and comes close up to Monk. Monk is now standing in front of the cave wall, in the middle of the wall above head height, is a sign of a V.

“Here take this.”

Jacob is given the rucksack. Monk then puts his hand onto two rocks that are protruding slightly some 3 feet away from each other on the cave wall, Monk then pushes both protrusions at the same time and a secret door suddenly opens up in front of him and directly under the V sign.

Jacob is very surprised.

“Oh my god.”

“In.” Orders Monk. “In quickly.”

They both enter the web covered tunnel which is now dimly lit by overhead lighting. The door shuts behind them. Directly within 20 feet has they enter the tunnel they are given two passages, Monk sees the sign he is after.

“Come on this way.”

Monk turns left.

“How do you know?” Jacob asks.

“Jacob you are in my world now, anyway that one must lead to the abbey.”

Monk walks off and Jacob quickly follows.

They are now making their way underground, and they start to descend deeper into the secret tunnel that is leading them under the River Dronne, water is seeping down the walls of the ancient tunnel, and they are making a splashing noise as they make their way forward.

They finally make it to the end of the long tunnel and find that they have come to a dead end a solid looking stone wall faces them.

“Hold on, there must be a sign near here.
